This one was for a template challenge using a template by Kakleid. I used my kit, Picasso Lilies and Promises and photos from my son's wedding/ That's the bride in the small photo.

This one was a challenge to complate a two page spread using 2 different kits:

And this one was to make a page featuring buttons. I chose a template by LissyKay because it reminded me of crazy quilting in which I do use buttons for embellishment.

Last I checked, we had a hurricane off the east coast of the United States and it looked likely to impact Virginia. As it is, the last few days we have had intense storms with thunder and heavy downpours. Changes in barometric pressure sometimes trigger migraines and I've had a few lately. But today all was good until just a few minutes ago when pressure began to build.

Busy week. One of my ladies who lunch group is recovering from surgery for lung cancer and was supposed to see an oncologist the end of last week to talk about "Preventive chemotherapy" about which she had mixed emotions. She's got a lot of pain and is pretty depressed, which isn't surprising. So tomorrow a few of us are taking her out to lunch at Bahama Breeze and try to lift her spirits. Debbie W is a very nice, hard working woman. I'm keeping her in my prayers but, having been through this with several family members doubt that even with being told "they got it all" and with chemo, the out come will be positive.

Friday and freebie

For hours now the house has been buffeted by high winds that are whipping trees around, slapping wires, and making all sorts of bumping and banging noises. Don't think I'm going out in this although there were a few things I'd wanted to do today. Have more than enough to do inside so will tackle the mound of laundry and put the tax stuff together. That should be more than enough.

Today I have some overlays for you. I put these together to make some of the papers in Wines & Roses but they can be used to create others. Have fun playing with them.

Thunderstorms, heavy rain & tornadoes. Or what has been going on here. Also a new free series beginning.

My last post was what? four days ago? For two days I stayed off the computer as Virginia got hit with high winds, heavy rain, thunder, and 8 tornadoes!

The news link above states that 4 people were killed, but last I heard it was 5. Lots of destruction, even where tornadoes didn't land as the ground was saturated and the high winds took down trees and slammed a lot of things around. We were worried because of a tall pine tree in our neighbors back yard which backs up to ours. In the past a lot of the tree's limbs have been lopped off and it's top heavy towards our house. We can't have the limbs on this side cut because it would kill the tree and we would be held responsible. So we just pray it doesn't fall over and take out a big part of our house.

The weather has also made my sinuses go crazy and I've been coughing a lot which wears me out. Still croupy today and resting up but have to get some things done around here in short order. My step-daughter's birthday is Thursday and she will be coming over to have one of her favorite meals - her father's stew. Friday I'll be doing last minute clean up because my son and soon to be DIL are coming to visit on the weekend. Looking forward to that.

I started this on Wednesday and other things intervened. Sorry about that but you know, Life happens. It's Saturday now. Hubby is at Cabin Fever Pickin' Party - an annual Bluegrass Music event. Not my thing. At present I'm not in the mood to do anything but there is much to be done. Right now I'm going to start you on "Celtic Charm" and set up a few days of posts. Super Bowl Sunday and new Valentine freebies

It's Super Bowl Sunday and many people are busy getting together the snacks for their party. I am not a football fan. It all seems kind of brutal to me, a bunch of guys running around and ramming into one another and landing in a heap. I have learned a little about the game being married to a die hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan, with son and grandson fans of the Redskins. Grandson, Tyler, is very competitive and a day spent with him and my hubby as cheer on or complain about the way a football game is going is not for me. Today hubby will make his chili cheese dip and watch the festivities by himself as son is out of state and grandson in Massenutten tubing. As for me, I'm going to try to get some chores done, update my reading challenge info, start a new book, and set up a few posts in advance. This is going to be a busy week: hubby goes to heart pavilion on 2/9 and we have been told to prepare to be there all day and that is if all goes well and he doesn't have to stay. 2/10 I'm supposed to take June back to her cardiologist for another possible adjustment of pacemaker if I don't need to be with John. I've heard most people see a dramatic improvement after getting a pacemaker but we have not seen in with June. 2/11 will be catch up day and then 2/12 there is a Red Hat luncheon with my local group.

Running down paperwork for taxes this afternoon. Never fun! Managed to lose the paperwork we needed to fill out for husband's visit to cardiologist tomorrow. I'm terrible about putting things where I will be able to find them and not remembering where that was. Got to get more organized! Seems that so much paper keeps coming in the house that it is difficult to keep up with. Oh well, at least while looking for the medical paperwork, I found my good watch (it had slipped off the chair side table and gotten buried under something) and one of the tax forms I thought had not come yet. That's something, right?

I think this quotation would be good to start a journal page with. This month I will be taking some of my favorite quotations, chosen at random from a digital file, and use them to start an art journal page.

Just taking it easy today after doing a lot of coughing last night. Last couple of days have had short episodes of chills but don't know why. Stayed in PJs today, watched daytime TV with hubby and did a little bit with the new kits. In a few minutes I'll deal with some dishes and put some folded laundry away. It's Sunday and . . .

my Red Hat Society chapter "dragged [ourselves] to brunch" at Crocs in Virginia Beach.

Crocs is a local restaurant that is a green (eco-friendly) bistro that features Mediterranean & Middle Eastern fare. On Sundays they have a "Drag yourself to brunch" with drag queen entertainers. I don't remember who recommended we try this but we made reservations well in advance, or so we thought. Today was one gloomy and cold day with mixed precipitation. We dressed in our Red Hat clothing and hats and arrived at the bistro in the rain. Our tables were in the corner, in the back, near the "stage" door. The place has a huge bar set in the middle of the restaurant and we were behind it. Turns out that the entertainers go in and out of the door by our table but do the performing mostly on the other side of the bar, which meant we didn't see much. We could, however, see the DJ from our position and he was hamming it up, dancing along with the performers from his platform. I expected what I consider typical brunch food that is, some breakfast type items with some lighter lunch items. Nope. There were salads, crab cake plates, a burger plate, and a couple appetizers. I got the hot crab dip from the appetizer menu, hoping it would be similar to what I make at home. Not! There was a huge dish of it with tacos chips (?) and while I ate a little of it, I found the taste too strong. My Bellini was strong too! A couple of our group managed some photos of the few entertainers who stopped by our table. As soon as they post to Facebook, I'll make a page to show you. Coming home we stepped into icy water as we went to the car. Rain changed to sleet mixed with a little snow. The change from the warmer weather we'd been having made my lungs unhappy and I coughed pretty much all the way home. Took a little nap and am now having a hot toddy as I write to you.
