October Girls

I am so sorry for not posting sooner as this was complete by October 1 but many things going on here at home. As you know, the Birthday Girls kits were inspired by birthstones and flowers asociated with birth month. Generally it works out pretty well. However the main birhtstone for October is the opal (which does come in many colors) with secondary stone of pink tourmaline. So far, so good. But the main birth flower is the marigold and I just couln't make those yellows, orange and bronzes work with the stones. I omitted the marigolds and went with secondary flower, the cosmos. That said, here is your belated kit.

May Girls

Believe it or not, May Girls is ready!
You get half the links today, the other two on Thursday. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/3wrik4kkpqgtgawn0drgn/ws_MayGirls_els_1.zip?rlkey=nymjm0xialsh4m04x1oox410e&st=8ff6votl&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/aike29khkz3u6rz9e4g1l/ws_MayGirls_pps_1.zip?rlkey=ypykiyc78kyckoorlsgf9ceyk&st=qkae1pii&dl=0 I've also made good headway on add-ons for January. I've made some word strips with a vellum like backing that deal with characteristics that are often associated with those born in January. There will be small cards with an image of the two birthday flowers with notes on what they symbolize. Haven't started the birthstone bit yet but you will get some history in text and I'm thinking about how to display the birthstone symbolism. I'd also like to give you a few things that I feel were left out of the original kits. For example: papers featuring the flowers (you'll find these already in May) and where there wasn't at least one woman in evening wear, one of those. Different kits will "need" different things. I hope to have the January add-on finished by Monday. You will notice that some months have more papers and elements than others. It isn't me favoring one month over another but a case of what I have that will work and what I can find. An I'm back to work on January add-on. Hugs!

This looks to be the last kit of the month. Kit includes 12 full size papers and 30 elements, not all of which are shown in preview. Please note: if you are a registered member of Just Art you will find some duplication with the Color Pop_ Purple I shared with members. Lots of different stuff in this kit too. Hope you enjoy.

A new Winter kit

Last week was full of doctor appointments - mine and his. Since hubby's eyes are bad right now, I'm having to transport him around. Got his surgeries (cataracts) scheduled for after I return from visiting my son. Had trouble getting my MRIs scheduled. Seems the local hospitals are short handed for radiology. Won't be going until near the end of the month. On the other hand, my right sided pain seems to be slacking off. Hoping the MRIs will provide some answers on why I'm having these nerve issues. Also good, my dentist could find nothing wrong in the area (right side again) of my jaw where I've had pain. He spotted a tiny place on old filling that he will restore but x-rays showed no issue there so he thinks the occassional pain there is a nerve too. Today I will start giving you Kingdom of Frost.

It will soon be Valentine's Day!

It's been awhile since I've posted, I know. Have lingering effects from my fall weeks ago. Right now the most troubling one is increased neck pain and tingling down my right arm. Had a visit to ER about the knee and was told it was just a bad sprain (after x-ray) and it was wrapped up. That's fine. Had a CT of cervical spine and was referred to orthopaedics. Of course, it takes a while to get in. The doctor there following up on my ER visit took more x-rays and announced "Your neck looks terrible!" The spine isn't his area of expertise, so he referred me to a member of their spine team. Another appointment. We talked about the artritis and degenerating disks in my neck and he did a basic evaluation. In doing so he noticed my trouble with balance showing in a wobbly walk and asked if anyone had ever told me I have some weak reflexes in my legs (MO). 've had a balance problem for years, was told it was probably due to brain damage from auto accident as there was nothing wrong with my ears. Did vestibular therapy and can normally do fine unless I am ill or over-tired. But since fall, balance has been worse. He has ordered MRIs of my cervical and thoracic spine. My husband's cataracts suddenly became much worse. We spent 3 hours on Monday getting an evaluation and scheduling his surgery. The good thing is they will also be able to correct his asstigmatizim and his glaucoma. In between all this I had a breast cancer scare. Fibroid cysts aren't new to me but those usually show as round or oval on mammograms. Instead, they found an assymetrical growth in my right breast. Another mammogram plus an ultrasound was scheduled. Afterwards, the radiologist said she couldn't say for certain whether it is a cyst or something worse. Will go back in six months for another ultrasound and more information. But I think allowing a six month wait sounds promising. During the last big storm we had here, I found leaks in the garage. We had to have a new roof put on. Between that and all the doctor visits 2024 has been busy and expensive. Sure hope the year is treating you better. Despite all this or maybe because of it, I've found solace in digital design. I'm hosting 3 challenges this month at Just Art, playing the other monthly challenges and have put together for you a Valentine's Day kit and a Winter kit. If Virginia is going to get any snow it is usually in February so snow was on my mind. Since Valentine's Day is so close, I want to give you "Young Love" now

How is 2024 Treating You So Far? & New Kit

Hope you are having a good New Year. Our first week wasn't too bad. We learned my husband's vision was worse and cataract surgery is going to be scheduled; not a surprise. We had ordered a new battery pack for my Dyson stick vacuum which had stopped holding a charge and kept going on and iff when I tried to use it. Hubby cleaned everything on the machine, put in the new battery pack and charged it and got same results. Later, talking to my son I learned he had experienced the same problem, tried everything and finally gave up. Plus hubby learned that the battery packs can overcharge and explode! This week? I'm hoping it doesn't continue like yesterday. I had ordered a Shark upright vac from Amazon and it wasn't expected until Monday. My husband decided to go to the grocery store right after opening and came home, lugging bags up to the porch to find a big box (the vac) blocking the doorway. He was outside calling to me (okay yelling my name). I was sleeping and had to get up, throw on my robe and rush to the door not knowing if something was wrong with him or what the situation was. In my rush, I somehow tripped, couldn't catch myself. Hit hard on my right knee and went down completely. He, of course, had no idea what was taking me so long. Took me a minute but I managed to get up, limp to door, and take the bags he was holding out to me as he tried to move the box completely away from door opening. We got the groceries into the kitchen and the box in the house. He had picked up breakfast so I ate that then swallowed 2 extra strength Tylenol, grabbed an ice pack from the freezer and headed to bed where I could put my legs up. And that did for my day! When I ventured into the living room later, I learned that the sound on our TV is going in and out. Well, we've had it many years now. So now we will be needing to get new TV; he can't get through the day without it. Still, things could be worse. I didn't break anything in my fall and we can afford to replace the things we need to. Now better news. I have a new kit for you that is suitable for any New Year's party photos you might have or any such occassions.
A couple of zips while I wait for Tylenol to kick in, then more another dayu. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2irw31xt2p4prkls5vyag/ws_TheSophisticate_el_1.zip?rlkey=mxtea92sw51v4n4tfcavku0u8&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2dq2hjowy9ksy2dtjal4d/ws_TheSophisticate_ppr_1.zip?rlkey=sirshwijzjvdwb0ge3jgbs3eh&dl=0

Finally have a new kit for you which I'll be uploading in 3 posts. There are 6 zips so I will give you an element and a paper zip each time but there will only be a main preview which doesn't show everything. The subject of this kit is little boys.

Autumn Attitude

Hard to believe it is mid September already! While it might be officially Autumn, here in coastal Virginia we are still having hot days and there is little of the changing color in foliage seen in more northern states. I'm looking forward to cooler weather, hoping that with it I'll have more energy and be able to accomplish more. It continues to remain a blue sort of year. My husband turns 73 tomorrow and has had the blues today due to his inability to do the things he used to do. He has realized his condition will not improve and worries about how this is impacting me. Pain is a constant now and about the only thing that gives him relief is sleep, once he can fall asleep. My ex-husband is heading to Florida to do preliminary work towards starting proton therapy for his cancer. Meanwhile my son, Jeremy, is realzing that we won't be around forever. Naturally, although he tries to keep up a positve outlook, he is worried about his father and he is also concerned about his step-father's health. Our grandson too is recognizing that his Papa is winding down. We all know these things are inevitable but that doesn't stop us from feeling sad. The bright note lately has been our great-grand-daughter, Taylor, who is progressing nicely and whose little smile lightens our hearts. At four months old, she now recognizes us even though she doesn't see us often. It is so cute to watch her turn in the direction of her Daddy's voice to see where he is. Definitely Daddy's girl. Football season is officially here. At grandson's suggestion, we decided to watch the first Washington game (His team. Husband's is the Steelers) together. Tyler pulled out his smoker and cooked a big pork shoulder and brought it over. We supplied the sides. And to top things off, he left the rest of that big pan of pork here for us to continue enjoying. We had some again the next night and I froze the rest to work into meal plans later.
That's Tyler cooking. Scrapped with the new kit I have for you called Autumn Attitude. Today I have the first zip of papers and first zip of elements. In next couple days I will post the last zip of papers and th other two zips of elements. Sure hope you like it.

In the Garden zips 5 & 6

Lots happening here, or it feels that way. A number of people I know are having major health issues: stomach cancer, heart trouble (waiting for a bipasss), hip replacement, complications from Crohn's disease, and iscemic colon. My next door neighbor and his wife have moved. She got a promotion and we are going to Alaska! Sure will miss them. They were the only people in the neighborhood we know and could count on if we needed help. I saw the oral surgeon this week and he took another panoramic x-ray and was pleased with the bone growth. I won't go back until September, then be x-rayed again to see when the post can be put in. Meanwhile, I was going to use the rabbit nibbling at the potted plant and discovered I'd somehow erased his tail and missed that when I put him in first zip. In zip 5 you will find a replacement. Same element number but with an "r" after it so you know it is the replacement. Since it's been too long, I have 3 zips for you today.

In the Garden 4

I've had some real food in last couple days - nothing I really needed to chew - and am feeling stronger. Pain is more like discomfort and pressure. Haven't been able to get rid of awful taste in the mouth yet and still want to sleep a lot, when I can get comfortable that is. Have given more thought to next part of procedure, which could be weeks or months away. The thought of drilling into jaw bone to place the post is worrying me. Might ask to be sedated for that although sedation is not covered by insurance and costs around $800 in addition to everything else. Will also ask whther doc can prescribe another pain medication as I don't want to go through that stomach pain again. Still a little queasy but since today is last day of Amoxicillin, I expect that to pass. I've been taking a probiotic along with the antibiotic and it does seem to make a difference. (Fingers crossed) I did manage to get my book review up on time, put up my monthly challenge at Just Art, and have a little more of new kit for you. Household chores still await. Don't they always?
Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jbzzqr4z2vrpkf2/ws_InTheGarden_4.zip?dl=0 Oh, I used the kit in progress to make my example ATC for JA challenge. What do you think?

Recovering & zip 3

Day 3 recovering from oral surgery. Turned out to be more painful that I expected and had bad stomach pain from first pain pill I took (Norco) so had to get by on just 600mg Tylenol (joke) and trying to sleep as much as possible. Swelling has finally gone down for most part but I still have pain, can't close my teeth with comfort and am so tired of liquid diet! Here is zip 2
