The Beach Chickens are flying away

I promised to share some of this months challenges with you. This month there were 15 challenges and I completed them all with 1/3 awarded Gallery Standout status. Very pleased by that so will show you those 5 pages. Here is one that really surprised me. We were given a zip containing a variety of items from which we had to create a page. Here is mine:
For the next challenge we received a small zip that contained 3 items that could hold something. The task was to use one in such a way that something was inside and part of it out.
Task 3 was to scrap an Autumn quote.
For my 4th GSO, the task was to create a masculine page.
THe 5th GSO was for the Progressive. We choose our colors and theme then follow directions a step at a time on how to create the page. (That is, things like: use a blended background, add x number photos, etc.)
And now the last zip of Beach Chickens, the remaining elements.

It's almost over - Beach Chicken, that is

About ready to wrap it up. Saturday will be the last zip & it's more elements. What's next? Too early for Halloween so probably some quick things like stamps and papers. Not sure yet.

Beach Chickens & Examples of recent challenges

There has been some interest in the digital art challenges I do so here are some examples from August. One popular challenge on Just Art is called Cock & Bull where we are given an old photo and have to make up a story to go with it. Here is mine:
For the Use It all challenge we are given a zip containing several papers and various elements from which to make a page. We can re-color the items, blend them but must use a certain number of them and can only add a title or wordart that isn't included.
And finally, my favorite challenge which is a Progressive. On 5 different days we are given instructions to interpret and gradually make a page. I love this challenge because it often requires using techniques or styles I might not otherwise use. Here is my August Progressive final page.
And now more Beach Chicken

Beach Chickens starts today!

Several people have asked where the term Beach Chickens came from. I really don't know. Seagulls have always been seagulls to me and I grew up going to the beach of Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The birds have been ever present, just a normal part of living in this area. The only other names I've ever heard applied to them have been derogatory, such as "rats of the air." I didn't know what I was going to name the requested seagull kit until I came upon a sticker in a designer resource group. I thought it was cute, so downloaded the sticker (removed sticker outline) and decided to use it as the kit name. Like you, I was curious about where this nickname originated. So I googled it. The answer that best seems plausable came from the Urban Dictionary which suggests the term orginated with surfers, and it does sound sort of California to me.

Last day of Marmalade Cat

Currently displeased with myself. Haven't accomplished a darn thing this week except for some digi stuff. Today will be devoted to catching up laundry and whatever else I can manage. Can't push too hard because if I over do it, I'll be down with pain for a couple days. Counter productive. At least the temperatures are somewhat cooler. Now just have to watch out for those tropical storms off the coast. Hope wherever you are you are staying safe and are doing well. This is it, our last day of Marmalade Cat. I've enjoyed hearing that you are happy with the kit. Be certain to snag all the zips before the end of the month.

Bad news, note to new reader & more of cat kit

The bad news is personal. Tuesday into Wednesday in less than 24 hours I learned of the deaths of 4 people I knew. The youngest at 60 had a massive heart attack and died before anyone could reach him. The oldest at 91, a friend's mother, died peacefully in her sleep. My friend Steph's sister who had been fighting a rare neurological disorder for the last six years which left her mind trapped in a body that became more disabled over time, has mercifully returned to God. While she will be missed, there is some comfort in knowing her spirit is finally free. The fourth death, that of a friend's wife, a little younger than me, may have been senseless. The woman and her family refused to take the Covid vaccine. She died in the hospital on a respirator in pain. Her husband and grown daughter also have Covid and may not survive. It seems so senseless.
Note to new reader from Greece: I am sorry but I don't have a way for you to follow. I can tell you that I normally post on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday unless something prevents me from doing so. Also, the links are only good until the end of the month. I was happy to hear that the fires there are out. Wish we could say the same for those out in California. It has been a brutal summer and start of autumn.

Zip 3 of Marmalade Cat

It's only 75 degrees here today which is much better than it has been. There are 2 hurricanes/tropical storms off the coast and I'm wondering what they will bring. I feel so bad for all those suffering from most recent huurricane. Such horrible damages and lives lost. They don't need any more storms adding to the flood waters. I have finished your Halloween kit and it is waiting in dropbox. Next up will be Beach Chicken, which is a seagull themed kit. I couldn't imagine what I'd name it until I saw the cutest graphic calling seagulls beach chickens. I've got more digi work to do, loading things to store, working on a collab, doing challenges etc but if I don't get the laundry caught up my husband will divorce me. Here is next zip:
