I noticed some comments about reading and wondered if all of you who use e-readers (I use Kindle Fire) know about the many sites where you can get cheap or free e-books? Amazon has lots of free ebooks for it's readers but there are also sites like bookbub.com, bookriot.com and earlybirdbooks@openroadmedia.com where you can find bargains on anything from classics to new and self-published fiction and non-fiction.
Hurricane Florence is on it's way and all sorts of things are being cancelled, places shut down through 9/16! Storm not expected to make landfall until Thursday but it's a level 4 and might become level 5. Some local areas are evacuating already. Zone A here in Norfolk to evacuate tomorrow morning. I'm in Zone C and planning on going to lunch with friends in Vriginia Beach tomorrow. Of course could wake up to strong winds and rain and then will reevaluate.
Anyway, did you know that mermaid legends extend back to 8th century? If you are interested in the folklore you might enjoy this:

Not so much about mermen but what I read about the Irish merman makes them sound like something I wouldn't want to meet - ugly with green seaweed like hair and green scales and a red nose! Nothing like the handsome Poser type mermen you might see if you google merman images. I've also noticed that many modern depictions of mermen suggest they are homsexual. Really? Where do all the merbabies come from? Got to thinking about how we might find juvenile looking mermaids but rarely merbabies. So I created a couple myself and you will find them in today's zip.

Since I don't know what Thursday will bring, I'm going ahead and advance scheduling zip 11.
Stay safe!

On self diagnosing and freebies
As some of you know, I've been having left hip pain since January. First I self-diagnosed it as fibro and treated it accordingly, Didn't help much. February came with lots of ice and snow and everyone I know with arthritis was having pain so I figured, okay, at my age maybe this is arthritis and I treated it as such. But arthritis strength Tylenol gave no relief, nor heat or anything else I could think of. It would get a little better, then come back, and then it really got worse. Pain from lower back, through left hip, groin, knee and down into the foot! And since right shoulder was hurting too, sleep was difficult. I finally got in to my doctor on Monday. He said I have bursitis in right shoulder, left hip and left knee! Turns out heat is bad for bursitis and can make it worse. Cold is what you use and cortisone. I got to choose whether hip or knee was worse and was given an injection. My hip is feeling better now but left knee is still pretty tender and now right knee is complaining from where I've been shifting my weight. But I'm not complaining; things are improving!
Today I have a couple journal cards for you with some examples. I believe I have an unfinished Easter kit in my stash. Will be looking for that to give to you the rest of the week.

Another day, another freebie
Still cold here but they say temps will rise to nearly 80 on Sunday! Is it any wonder so many have sinus headaches, cold, and flu? The body just can't adjust so well. I'm pleased to report that after my husband's accident, his company finally put some emergency lights out in the parking lot. Also, most of the swelling in his nose has gone down so he's breathing better but still has bad bruising. Knees etc are okay. As for me, the meds are working and shingles aren't bothering me. Still there but no longer itching or painful 90% of the time. Today was wasted with a headache but more because I got upset last evening than weather. Nothing serious, just me being over sensitive which happens when I'm ill and over tired. Tomorrow will be a better day. Thanks Deb & Stacey for digi hugs; it helps to know such nice people. Stacey, good to hear your wrist is improving and the un-decorating is proceeding well.
Here is today's zip of Friendship Jewels:

So how is your January coming along? Doing anything interesting? What are you reading? What projects do you have going? Curious minds want to know lol. BTW that the customer I was looking for? She contacted me and I learned she had been ill. I think she's finally able to get her downloads and knows I'll work with her if she can't get them all from store by end of month. Hearing from her made me feel better. I've been reading up a storm: Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, a couple of Laura Child's wonderful tea shoppe mysteries, and now reading Steve Berry's The Lincoln Myth. 15 more minutes and I can take my next dose of medicine and go to bed. Have dried cherries plumpimg up in a leftover bit of Moscato wine and will make some scones in the morning. I plan to go over and see Miss June and Dad and take along some tea and scones for a treat. 3 day weekend here (Monday is Lee_Jackson_King day in Virignia). Stay well and be creative!
