Another Bohemian Boudoir freebie
I don't know what the final tally was of inches of snow here yesterday. I do know that it started snowing about 11:30 Tuesday night and continued until about 7pm yesterday. Lots and lots of snow. Not that I've been out in it. My husband actually got today (oops Thursday) off but has to go in today. No melting of snow today; it's in 20s and expected to be the same tomorrow. My car is under the snow but husband has his dug out and a path from driveway to street dug so he can get to work. Thought I'd give you a couple of furniture pieces for the kit tonight:

And it's snowing - again & another freebie
Everything local has already been canceled for both today and Friday. this was news around 2pm on Wednesday! Weatherman is predicting the worst wonter storm of the season with significantly more snow than previous storms. So we watched and watched and about 10:30 when I looked out nothing was happening. But I went into the kitchen a few minutes ago and snow is falling. Wonder how much we will get this time? Anyway, thought I'd post some more Bohemian Boudoir papers before I got to bed.

Of weather & freebies etc
Nothing new to report really. Yesterday we had temperatures up to 53 degrees which helped melt a lot of snow and ice. Today was supposed to be in 30's. I only went out as far as front porch to collect mail. My hand bracelet arrived! Love it. Still not wanting to do much although I did work in Photoshop and have a few things loaded in 4shared for you. Today, how about more journal cards?
http://www.4shared.com/zip/EZ3A6JiUce/SherryD_journal_cards_78.html?
I may do some without words but since I plan to actually use these as a type of pocket journal, I like a quotation or a word that inspires or prompts me to say something.
And here is a Bohemian Boudoir freebie:
Some clothing you might see in our girl's boudoir. (You will see some of this again too.)

More Bohemian Boudoir _paper freebies
It's still cold but tomorrow is predicted to be somewhere between 40s-50s with possibility of rain. today I have 2 more papers for you. Yes, at first glance they appear to be the same. I played with different overlays and filters and couldn't decide which I liked best, so zipped up both. Paper 8 is closer to what I was trying for - a silky fabric wih glitzy dots.

It's freezing, Black History Month & Journal card freebie
It's 12 degrees here. Sun was out today, melting snow which is now more ice. But it's supposed to be in 40s tomorrow. I was trying to decide what to do for an art journal page and wavering from one idea to another when I thought maybe I'd do something about Black History month which in the US is celebrated in February. This isn't fancy, just a collage of quotations I like by Black Americans.
Maybe one day we won't need a Black History month or Hispanic History Month or Women's History Month. Maybe one day it will all be American History.
A couple more journal cards
Personal use only. Pick up here:

Currently it is 1 degree here in Norfolk & freebie
The temperature is in part due to wind chill factor. We didn't get the additional snow the other day but the previous snow is ice now and most roads haven't been cleared. I just set the bathtub to drip again tonight because we were told that sometime after midnight the temperature is expected to drop to -7 degrees! I haven't been out all week even though I should have gone out to start my car at least. Didn't want to trudge through the snow or breathe that cold cold air for fear it would cause me to have breathing problems. But my husband has had to work every day. On the worst day he carried less than a dozen people on the bus all day. At some point this weekend we will have to go out for a few supplies so I really hope there is a warm spell. Still, we don't have 90 inches of snow like Boston, so shouldn't complain. I can't imagine what those people are going through.
Above (depending on blogger lol) you can see what I did with one of the journal cards I've been posting. Honestly, I haven't been doing much of anything. All I want to do is crawl back under the bed covers and hibernate with my heat pack. Finally resorted to using a little Voltaren gel on the painful shoulder last night so I could get some sleep. Don't want to be taking Tylenol every day. And several times today I resorted to lying down with the heat pack on my shoulder.
Stacey responded to my comments about personal symbols saying (hope you don't mind?) she doesn't think she has any but admitted to having some lions of some sort around. I'd say there is a reason we are attracted to certain images and things. I was pretty sure lions have been used to symbolize power and royalty and the Leo sun sign, and courage. Of course, I love doing research so checked out possible symbolic meanings for Stacey's lions. Here is a good summary of what I found:
(from http://www.whats-your-sign.com/symbolic-meaning-of-lions.html )
Wisdom
Power
Royalty
Dignity
Courage
Justice
Ferocity
Dominion
Authority
I found it interesting to learn that allthough the lion is a nocturnal animal, it has been associated with the sun. Which made me recall that Stacey also loves sunflowers. The name alone tells us these plants are associated with sun and turn their blooms to face the sun. The cheerful bright yellow is bound to make us think of warmth and sunshine. It's a cheery flower that also produces, in its seeds and oil, a good source of nourishment. Picked up a few tidbits on sunflower symbolism from Teleflora:
"It's said that the natives of the Inca Empire worshipped a giant sunflower, and that Incan priestesses wore large sunflower disks made of gold on their garments. Images of sunflowers were found in the temples of the Andes mountains, and Native American Indians placed bowls of sunflower seeds on the graves of their dead. The Impressionist period of art is famous for its fascination with the sunflower, and this striking flower remains today a commonly photographed and painted icon of uncommon beauty." They also declare it the flower for a 3rd anniversary. A lovely spirtual symbolism I found was that "because the blossom (bright and bountiful) is always seeking out the light. Symbolically, this is spiritually akin to the heart/soul of humankind always seeking and attaining unity with the light of faith and keeping a connection with the Source/God/Goddess of one's own understanding." (http://www.whats-your-sign.com/symbolic-sunflower-meaning.html) Other possible symbolic meanings are:
Faith
Longevity
Healing
Nourishment
Focus
Good Luck
Magic
Worship
Flexibility
Spiritual knowing (ibid.)
For fun, I played around with these 2 images and here is what I came up with as a calling card (lots of space to add whatever you want.).
And now another Bohemian Boudoir freebie:

Bohemian Boudor freebie
Imagine you are a young lady with Bohemian tastes and a love of jewel tones. Painting your bedroom one color is just too ordinary Why not paint each wall a different color? I wanted to put silver stars on her ceiling but couldn't get the perspective to look right. Here is a room view then with furniture to slowly follow.
http://www.4shared.com/zip/iFTdHh_Nce/ws_BohemianBoudoir_paper_6.html?
I tried downloading the first journal card direct from blog and it wasn't 3" x 4" because it gets converted to 72 dpi. So, I've zipped the first card with the new one I'm giving today. Didn't bother to add my TOU. These are personal use only. Here's the new journal card:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/cR-Kxztfce/SherryD_journalcards_12.html?
We got 6" of snow the other day and more is expected tonight but less than an inch. However, the temperatures are dropping into single digits with it expected to go to -2 degrees! Even more unbelievable is that the forcast says temperatures may be up to 60 on Sunday!
Being stuck in the house . . . nah, won't make an excuse. Sometimes I just like to surf on ebay and see what's available. So I was doing that the other day and came across something I really wanted. We all have certain images we tend to gravitate to, certain things we like, certain colors. You might even say (some do) that we all have personal symbols. Sometimes their meaning to us is pretty much standard - that is, widely recognized - and sometimes their meaning is more personal. I've been exploring this a little, thinking about what my personal symbols might be and one that I've been drawn to as long as I can remember is hands. My symbolic meaning is that hands remind me of friendship and affection. They also make me think of honesty and integrity as in a handshake to close a deal or a promise. And certainly, of creativity and the things we make with our hands. I love the symbolism of the Irish Claddaugh with it's hands, heart & crown; the hands mean friendship there. There is also the use of a stylized hand to represent the hand of God (think of Michelangelo's Sistene chapel & the Hamsa Hand in Jewish tradition). If you watched or read Game of Thrones, you know that the hand was also a symbol of power, as in The King's Hand who was a person of great authority and who wore (at least in the novel) a necklace of golden hands to denote his office. If you go looking for recognized symbolic meanings, you will also find that the hand is the part of the body most often represented symbolically. If you are curious about hand symbolism, here are 2 interesting links which mention some meanings I was unaware of:
http://www.ornotmagazine.com/project/symbolism-hands-from-gargas-to-elsa-schiaparelli/
http://www.whats-your-sign.com/symbolic-hand-meaning.html
All this to tell you that I spotted a vintage sterling silver bracelet of hands on ebay, bid on it and won it. I won at a price higher than I wanted to pay but actually reasonable and I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

Freebie alert
It's snowing! There are a couple of inches on the ground (beautiful!) and when I looked out the kitchen window while setting up coffee for morning, the sky looks white. We are told that later tonight the snow will probably change over to a mixture of sleet and rain. That's pretty typical around here. Still, it will make for messy travel in the morning. A lot of places have already made decisions to close but the transit company my husband works for will only close if the authorities request everyone stay off the streets. He actually got 3 snow days last winter but I think he will be working tomorrow.
I've decided I'm also going to be making some journal cards to share. At firsst I was planning to go with ATC size (2.5 x 3.5") but saw that most journal cards are 3" x 4" with some at 4" x 6" which I feel is too big. So 3" x 4" it is. Today's journal card was inspired by the random color scheme that was on my blog when I opened it - vermillion. This card is for personal use only.
You should be able to right click and save.
I'm getting ready to make a preview for another piece of Bohemian Boudoir but first need to send a message to a freebies group I'm part of to alert them to the kit series. More later.

Bohemian Boudoir freebie
Boy is it cold here! Don't know what the temp is right now but we went out for dinner and it's freezing out there. Winds did die down a little but we expecting more inclement weather over next few days. We are hearing snow mixed with sleet one moment, then just snow the next. Estimates for accumulations run from a few inches to a foot. It's wait and see time. I forgot to post a page I made for the Art Link challenge that shows off our grandson and his girlfriend.
Dont't they make a handsome couple? Just 16 though and both want to go to college, which is great to hear.
My husband and I had a quiet Valentine's Day at home, both of us aching with this weather. We got our new wireless printer set up and running so that we can share it. It is really nice.
I have another paper for you tonight and I'm making progress on the elements. I'm working on furniture, wardrobe, and other items you might find in the bedroom of our bohemian girl. Have also created one figure in very gypsy like attire and am considering making another. All in good time.
Hope you like it as much as I do .

Happy Valentines Day & freebie
The temperatures here have been cold - with wind chill factor we were in single digits yesterday. That's not usual for Tidewater. Had snow coming down for awhile but it didn't stick. Still have gusty winds and cold temps today but sky is mostly clear. Did see some snow flurries when I went out to return a Redbox movie. Saw Gone Girl last night. I think if I hadn't read the noel it would have been missing a lot. Afleck was good but the woman who played Amy was really something - quite chilling. Be sure you see the movie and read the novel if you haven't already. But, as my ex-husband's new wife commented, be aware that these "aren't nice people." That is putting it mildly. Mostly I've been doing nothing. The cold has shot my pain level way up. And then our router died so no internet to distract me. Luckily, BIL said he had an extra router just like ours and hubby was able to pick it up this morning. I got to playing once the PC was working again and made something for your Bohemian Boudoir stash. I know I mentioned a border the other day but I'm not quite ready to package that one. However, I do have a combo file for you today. I made a border but then decided I should also offer the table cluster without the line graphic behind it. Here's the preview:
I hope you like it. The young woman whose boudoir we are creating is curious about all things including the mysterious or occult. Nothing sinister, mind you, but she's experimented with tarot readings and trying to see something in a crystal ball. She knows there is more than what is visible. Or as Mulder used to say on X-Files, "the truth is out there" and she's open to alternative perspectives, mystery and magic.

Bohemian Boudoir freebie
It's turned cold again with gusty winds as another front moves through. Weatherman had predicted we'd have rain this afternoon and evening then near morning a possibility of snow. No rain but snow flurries started an hour ago with big, fluffy flakes then backed off so it wasn't noticable when looking out the window from the desk. Hubby decided to head downtown for his union meeting. I went in to preheat the oven and couldn't really tell from kitchen what the weather was doing. It's nearly dark out now so harder to see but a trip out onto the porch confirmed it is still snowing but small flakes. If this is what we are getting already, those poor people in Boston must already be watching more snow pile up. [shiver] I just finished a clustered border for Bohemian Boudoir that I'm happy with and worked on some more elements today. Tonight I'm giving you another paper.
Pick it up here and stay warm!

Bohemian Boudoir freebie, Art Link challenge, taxes
What have I been doing? Not much it seems. Sunday we did the federal taxes and hubby mailed that out yesterday. Tomorrow afternoon, we will being doing state tax. Refunds will go into our sparse savings account. Just over a year to go until my husband retires and finances get tighter. Other than that, I've been doing the Art Link challenge and working on Bohemian Boudoir. It's day 5 of the Art Link Challenge and it's unfortunate but of the 4 ladies I've already issued the challenge to, I've only seen a page by one. Thanks, Deb Abbe. I enjoyed seeing Korbin and Lilly. I don't mean to come off as critical because I know the other ladies are seriously busy & I hope they will pick up at some point. Today I nominated Brenda Grafton of Brenda's Scrap Designs. I feel pretty confident that Brenda will play and show off some of her designs. As for me, I experimented for my Day 5. Made a page about my son and his job. Tried using a vintage photo of radiography people over the background. I'm not thrilled with how it turned out.
Today I have bows for Bohemian Boudoir. Not saved as individual pngs but as a psd. The centers of the bows are kind of wonky, so I included 3 metallic piece you can add.
You will find them here http://www.4shared.com/zip/S8djkmsYba/ws_BohemianBoudoir_bowscenters.html? Links for Bohemian Boudoir will be available until end of March, then will expire.
Bohemian Boudoir freebie & Scrapping Challenge day 4
I'm running late (again). Technically, since it's after midnight, it's Day 5 of the Art Link Scrapping Challenge issued to me by Liv of Country Liv's Graphics but I'm just now posting Day 4. The page was based on another of Oklahoma Dawn's templates/ I used my Wonderland Scraps kit, Very Cherry. Photos are of my son and his girl.
Deb Abbey of Designs by Abbey responded to my challenge with a wonderful page showing her grandson and granddaughter?). Today I issued the challenge to Cari of Black Widow Creationz. She mostly does tags but that would work too.
Still no word on how Humana and Right Source are going to handle that snafu with the Januvia. Meanwhile, tonight I ate 3 macadamia nuts from a tin of nuts my ex had given us. He knows I love macadamias so chose a nice mix with lots of them. For the second time now, my tongue feels funny and so does my throat. I'm thinking I might be developing an allergy to macadamias. Good thing I only ate a few. I'm going to take a Benedryl before going to bed.

Scrapping Challenge & freebie
Yesterday my friend, Liv (Country Liv's Graphics) requested I join a 5 day scrapping challenge. Each day I am to post a new page of some kind and invite another person to the challenge. Yesterday's entry was a journal page that reflected what has been keeping me fairly immobile lately:
The border is from Marniejo's House of Scraps, her Fibromyalgia Awareness Borders.
Last night I issued a challenge to Lynne aka Veronica Akers_Kilgore, formerly known as BabyCakes Scraps. She's busy so might runa little behind.
Today another journal page, triggered by seeing a Maxine quote.
Todays' challenge was accepted by Deb Abbey. Hoping her page will show off that cute grandson of hers.
Had trouble finding my swatch for Bohemian Boudoir today but finally it appeared in another folder. So tonight I've got some ric-rac for you in the colors of the swatch. Did this as a psd file this time instead of individual pngs. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
You will find it here:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/4pJbZy18ce/ws_BohemianBoudoir__ric-rac.html?
It's cold, pain level is up and a freebie for you
Its freezing here but no precipitation so that's okay. Unfortunately, the weather has set up a fibro flare. Well, it's not gottne much better since the bad flair occured over a week ago. In consequence, I'm not getting much done. Tomorrow I face a load of chores and only the most important will get my attention. I am still working on the Bohemian Boudoir kit and wanted to make a couple of comments about some words that get tossed around. "Gypsy" is a word that we often hear but did you know it can refer to: 1 Ethnic groups, 2 Literature, 3 Stage and screen, 4 Music, 5 Transport, 6 People, 7 Places and more? This from Wikipedia. The problem is that while many of us (me rising my hand) tend to think of "gypsy" as romantic, unconventional, colorful, it when referring to people it is a derogatory term for the Romani and Pavee people. As Wikipedia says, it is "The generic usage that refers to any itinerant person who is suspected of dishonest practices derives from traditional racist stereotypes of the Romani people." The free dictionary on-line defines it this way:
Gyp·sy also Gip·sy (jÄp′sÄ“)
n. pl. Gyp·sies also Gip·sies
1. Often Offensive
a. See Romani.
b. The Romani language.
2. A member of any of various traditionally itinerant groups unrelated to the Romani.
3. gypsy One who follows an itinerant or otherwise unconventional career or way of life, especially:
a. A part-time or temporary member of a college faculty.
b. A member of the chorus line in a theater production.
(American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition. Copyright © 2011 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company. Published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company.)
I started to call this kit in the works Gypsy Boudoir but I don't want to offend anyone. (I knew one person of Romani heritage in grad school and she was beauitiful, kind, talented, and honest.) And the more I thought about it, the more I realized that we often use "gypsy" in descriptions when the proper word (more syllables) is "bohemian." Still with me? Sure the first definition fro "bohemian" is that it's an adjective relating to people from Bohemia but the second meaning is the one we use most. That is, a person who has informal and unconventional social habits, especially an artist or writer. If you remember the late sixties and the seventies, we saw a lot of bohemian influences in life styles, clothing, and decorating. A "Hippie" was
"a person, especially of the late 1960s, who rejected established institutions and values and sought spontaneity, direct personal relations expressing love, and expanded consciousness, often expressed externally in the wearing of casual, folksy clothing and of beads, headbands, used garments, etc." In other words, bohemian. That said, here is your first paper:

Insurance woes, collage challenge page, freebie
After closing my shops at Digi Style Design, I am on a break to explore new things, catch up on chores, yada yada. I will still be posting digital scrapbook/ATC/collage freebies on this blog from time to time. I hope to post at least one item a week, maybe more, depending on how things are going. Today was rainy but warmer than it has been. Yet, they say we will having dropping temps and possibiliy snow in next day or two. Sure, whatever. Meanwhile, I'm getting conflicting info from my new health insurance company, Humana, and their mail order pharmacy area, Right Source RX. I've been taking Januvia for some years and last month they paid for it but then Human sent me a letter saying I would have to try another drug first so contact my doctor. At the same time, Right Source was supposed to be working with my doctors to get records for all my routine monthly meds and set them up for 3 month mail order which is cheaper. I told Right Source what Humana had said about Januvia, explained I'd tell doc about it and see what he wanted me to do. Doc gave me a RX for glucontrol to replace the Januvia. It's been around longer so no doubt costs less. The day after doctor visit, before I could mail out that prescription, I get call from Right Source to confirm some info and advise me of which prescriptions had been filled and were on way out. I'm told Januvia is on the way! I discuss the letter I got from Humana and am told the order went through and $125.00 has been billed to my credit card. Girl says, there must have been a change and looks up the glucontrol to see if it would be less expensive. It's more expensive she says! Okay, the 3 month supply charge for Januvia is about what I'd been paying previously in co-pays so this is fine. Today, the Januvia order arrives. The ticket enclosed says the pre-insurance price is about $995 for 3 months but I was mailed co-pay of $125. Then I open a separate letter from Right Source which says Januvia is either not covered by my insurance or requires authorization and they are working with Humana to resolve the problem and will get back to me. Does this mean I might get billed the difference? I call Humana. Their automated system is a pain and all I get is a recording telling me what tier of charges Januvia is on and that a "Stage" is involved and I'm at stage 2. Useless! Not wanting to stay on phone forever, I go to the website which is supposed tohave a secure communications center. I'm able to get to the form you use to send secure e-mail but unab;e to type into it. They suggest if it doesn't work, then call (right!) or go to Facebook page. So I go to FB and message them about how frustrated I am and request someone respond to my questions by e-mail. Not happy! First, I lost my rheumatologist because she doesn't take Humana or self-pays, now getting prescriptions is a pain!
Changing subject. I came across a blog called collage obsession and saw that they do a weekly (?) collage challenge. Didn't like the current one but the one before it was a challenge to create a page using the Pantone color of 2015 which is marsala. Even though that challenge had closed, I created the above page for my art journal. I am currently working on a kit, whch I will offer for free here, based on a color swatch from Stacey. THe working name of the kit is Bohemian Boudoir. To give you a tast of what is to come, I'm posting a small cluster for your personal use.
