It poured down here most of the day. My husband took our neice, Rachel, to shooting range to teach her about handguns - safety and how to shoot if needed. She was quite a good shot. She also set up my new laptop so that goggle not edge would be my default browser. Then the 3 of us went to dinner at Golden Corral.
After dinner Lexi and Madison decided to experiment with make up tips while talking about boys and school. They painted each other's nails with the new nail polishes they bought. Some time in the wee hours of morning, faces scrubbed clean, all washed up and in their shortie pjs, they finally crawled beneath the covers to get some sleep.

What to do until dinner? Zip 6 of Sleep Over
After spending some time going through their new purchases, Lexi and Madison decide to play video games until dinner. Lexi's Mom will be making salads and ordered pizza to go with. The girls entertain themselves with video games until the pizza arrives.
[I forgot to include the dolls in the preview but they are in your zip.]

Late correction on Independence Day
Just saw where some people had trouble opening the first element zip for Independence Day elements. Try this; it worked for me

More of Sleep Over freebie
Madison and Lexi leave Just Beautiful! and head out into the mall. Stopping at Amys' Accessories, they purchase hair bows and earrings. Then Lexi spots something in the window of a nearby boutique. She has to have the cute bird ornaments with attached brass bells. She buys 3. Madison seems especially fond of the green bird so Lexi gifts it to her. They talk about what they will do when they get back to Lexi's house as they head back to the beauty store to meet Lexi's Mom.

Lexi & Madison go shopping in Sleep Over freebie
Miserable rainy day and I've got a doctor appointment. Have to call my primary doc too because left shoulder pain worse. Can't lift arm above shoulder level without pain. Must be bursitits acting up and need some cortisone. Not much else happening here. Just sold the Blazer I bought form my Dad some years back. Grandson really wanted it and since we'd already given him my husband's Chrysler 300 which was in great shape, we decided we weren't going to give him a second car. He sold the Chrysler to buy the Blazer from us (we didn't charge much). He is happy as can be and I'm happy to be rid of a third vehicle. Plus, my husband convinced me to buy myself a new laptop. My old one still works but it's a refurbished business model running on Windows 7 and it is heavy as lead so I never take it anywhere. I was feeling guilty about my purchase but hubby reminded me I'd be paid for the Blazer and that would pay for the laptop and even leave a little profit. Guess that will go into a laptop bag and whatever else I'll need.
The day of the sleep over arrives and Lexi and her Mom pick up Madison before lunch time. After loading her overnight case in the car, they head to a favorite deli for a lunch of chicken salad sandwiches and peach iced tea. Then it is off to the mall. The girls have their allowances and babysitting monies with them and are eager to do some shopping. First stop is at Just Beautiful!, a supersized beauty store that carries products from around the world, has a skin care clinic, makeup services, and a full service hair and nail salon. Lexi's Mom has appointments for a haircut and mani-pedi. This gives the girls about 2 hours to shop before meeting up with her again. Just before the girls leave her, Mom gives each a gift card to use at Just Beautiful! She says it is to thank them for all the help they gave her with the past week's rummage sale at church. The girls squeal in delight and shower Mom with hugs and kisses.
It doesn't take long before Lexi and Madison have located and bought their favorite perfumes: Midnight Moods for Lexi and Plum Passion for Madison. They explore their favorite places in Just Beautiful! then move out into the mall to explore other favorite haunts.

Sleep Over 3
When Lexi's Mom presented her ideas for the make over of Lexi's room, Lexi carefully reviewed them and made appreciative comments. Then she told her parents that while she appreciated all the love and thought her mother had put into the plans, it wasn't quite what she had in mind. She said that while her mother's plan was bright and cheerful and used many colors she liked, she had in mind something more restful, more dreamy, as she put it. Her parents listened carefully to what Lexi suggested but her mother felt it sounded a little dark and dreary. Lexi went on to explain 3 of the walls would be a peaceful but restful periwinkle and only one would be darker with stars. Dad suggested he could get a galaxy mural for the wall but Lexi said she didn't need a whole galaxy, only some stars in a night sky to gaze at as she fell asleep. She thought she could do it herself. And she wanted to re-purpose some furniture from her grandmother. She knew her Mom could teach her how to do some simple upholstery on the headboard. Lexi is an artist," her Dad pointed out. And this is what she came up with, the room Madison would be coming to sleep over in.

Sleep Over freebie
Mothers have notions about what their children will be like. Sometimes we're pretty much on target; other times not. Children are full of surprises. The mothers of Lexi and Madison thought they knew what they could expect from their daughters but got some surprises. Lexi's mother expected, and got, a very feminine little girl. Lexi has no interest in sports except for playing beach volleyball. She is sweet and even tempered, a straight "A" student, and talented artist. When Lexi moved into the teens, her mother thought she'd want a girlie room with pinks and purples. Like the one in today's zip. But in addition to all of the above, Lexi is a romantic and a dreamer with visions of her own about the room she would love to have.
Here's Mom's notion:

Day late with new freebie, Sleep Over
Running a day behind, I know. Last couple of days I've had some pain issues but yesterday I spent most of the day with my friend, Shirley, who I used to work with years ago. She had invited me to go to a free lecture at the Edgar Cayce foundation, known as the Association for Research and Enlightenment, at Virginia Beach. We both love crystals and gemstones and that is what the lecture was to be about. Talk about dull! The speaker just looked up all the things Cayce had said about gemstones in his various sessions counseling individuals. She had the information printed out on slides with footnotes about which session number the reference occured in and basically just read what we could read written on the screen! Cayce himself would have said the references she was reading out were related to specific indivuduals, their needs, and how crystals or gemstones might relate to their situation. Bah! We were hoping the lecture would include things like how crystals and gemstones were used in history, meanings, uses, etc. When the lecture was over, we browsed the A.R.E.s bookstore, then headed out to lunch. We tried Baker's Crust in Virginia Beach but neither of us cared for it much. Did a little window shopping in the area. Spent some time with my husband when I got home and crashed early so didn't get around to posting.
This new freebie is called Sleep Over. Remember what fun it was when you were growing up and you got invited to spend the night at a friend's house? We called those occassions Sleep Overs although we did little sleeping. There was so much to talk about with your best friend, especially during the teen years: school, fashion, makeup, boys, movies, books, and more about boys, and that topic we weren't supposed to know too much about - sex. Early on, we might go shopping or to a movie, then back at home, we'd play games (they'd be video now), do each other's hair and makeup and so on. This kit will be about what two best friends, Lexie and Madison, do on a sleep over. In this first zip there's a small desktop double photo to introduce you to the two young ladies. Lexie is the blonde, Madison the brunette. (There is also an empty frame.)

Tomorrow will be a busy day with two doctor appointments, pool (to make up for today when I couldn't go) and dinner out with Sissy & John. Will do my best to get zip 2 posted.

Memphis 80s freebie
Just got back from Delaware yesterday afternoon. Needed a little get away and it is too hot out to do much, so we went to Harrington Raceway & Casino to entertain ourselves with penny slots. My husband is usually lucky and makes a little profit. I usually come home with at least what I took with me because if I put $10 in and get it up to $20, I cash out and put that ticket aside. Do the same each time I put in a portion of whatever I've planned to spend that day. This time it didn't work out well so I had some loss but, it was still entertaining for awhile. We also look forward to seeing some movies on HBO at the hotel since we don't have HBO or Startime (whatever the pay movie channels are these days) but the hotel we stayed in only had HBO as a pay service and we didn't think it worthwhile. Our grandson was kind and stayed here at the house for us while we were gone, gathering mail, putting trash out etc. Tomorrow it's back to pool time and getting some stuff done around the house for me and grandson starts a summer job with a security company putting in cables and cameras and such.
This Saturday will be the last of Memphis 80s and, frankly, don't know where we will go from there. Not feeling terribly inspired.

Memphis 80s freebie - music is always important
Yesterday my Aunt Sissy's boyfriend, John E, dropped by with some spare ribs he'd made for us. Nice surprise! We had made potatoe salad and were just going to grill some hot dogs to go with, but we couldn't let those ribs wait in fridge, could we? Spent this morning and early afternoon doing some picking up and cleaning. Late coming back from pool. Nothing much going on for now.
Today zip 8 of Memphis 80s is about music:

Happy Independence Day!
Here in my hometown, I remember parades held downtown when I was small but can't recall a 4th of July parade in particular. Since we lived just blocks from the bay at that time, we usually got together with my Mom's older sister and her brood. We'd go to the beach and play in the water while the grownups crabbed. Once they had caught enough for a good feast, we'd head home and we kids would play in the yard while Aunt Dean and Mom cooked the crabs and got all the other food together. After a big picnic with fried chicken and such for us kids and the grownups (except my Dad, of course!) picked and ate crabs, we'd finish off with ice cold watermelon. We saved the rinds to be pickled later. Before dark we'd head back to the beach to get a good spot for watching fireworks and run around with sparklers. By the time the last fireworks lit the sky, some of us kids would have fallen asleep on the beach towels. It seemed to take a long time to gather our things up and trudge home. We'd fuss about getting bathed because we were so tired but once pajamas were on, we went to sleep quickly with no protest.
No parades in Tidewater but there are activities in the local cities and most conclude with a big fireworks display. Too hot and humid for my husband and I to be interested in going out. We're having a nice quiet day at home. Instead of a picnic, hubby will make his delicious spareribs as main course.
As I told you, I hadn't planned to make a holiday kit, just did some playing around. That said, it's a hodgepodge of red, white, and blue - quickpages, papers stacked and unstacked, and a variety of elements. Maybe you will find something you can use.
I feel pretty good about the quickpages.

It's July already? Memphis 80s freebie
This year seems to be flying by, which might be good considering things that have happened. Summer heat makes it difficult to be motivated to do much. Keeping up the pool exercises, although last week I had to force myself to walk out the door and this week will be a change in schedule because of holiday. Working on coming up with a housekeeping routine I can stick with and getting ahead on some of the mess that accumulated during the past year. It's overwhelming but I must get things back to "normal" so I have more time and space to do things I want to do. Like breaking out that new sewing machine. Would like to make some bed runners for Christmas gifts and I also want to get back to crazy quilting. Have a couple CQ projects in mind.
Today what I have for you is
Turns out I went heavy on skating/skate-boarding.

Thinking of Independence Day tomorrow or, as we tend to say now, The 4th of July. I was looking at some old photos of how people used to celebrate. Parades and picnics, sure. But they really went all out in the past. Bystanders as well as parade participants dressed up. In the days when towns were smaller and there was usually a park or common green in town, there was usually a gazabo or bandstand where a band would play patriotic music while you ate your picnic lunch. Often there were games to keep the kiddies occupied and families might lounge around together on blankets or quilts spread on the grass and chat with neighbors until the skies darkened and the fireworks display began. Some, maybe all, of these things still happen today somewhere across the country. Thought I'd share some of the old photos I found on line.
