Have been MIA

due to respiratory problems. Caught virus from grand-daughter at Christmas and was ill by 12/29. It just won't leave! Have been on antibiotics but was short-of-breath and having terrible coughing spasms. Another visit to doc found bad wheezing and inflammation of bronchial tubes so went on prednisone, nebulizer treatments and rescue inhaler. Not as much coughing now - if I stay still - but weak and feel like I have a weight on my chest. Nothing much getting done, that's for sure!

More Ideas For Using Your Stash

Felice and I are busy preparing for the holidays while fighing seasonal flare-ups of our fibromyalgia, but we haven't forgotten our promise to bring you more ideas for using your stash and more free examples.

This post will feature two new kits by Felice, Noel and Gothy Christmas and my Christmas for Kiddies (2010) and Happy Holly Days (older) kits. Here we will show you 2 cute hybrid ideas that are really useful at Christmas: candy bar wraps and gift card holders.

Candy bar wraps and gift card holders make for attractive presentation of small gifts and are perfect for stocking stuffers. The candy bar wraps shown here are sized for a standard 1.55 oz. Hershey bar but you could adjust them to fit other candy bars. All you have to do to use these is print out the wrappers from the link and wrap around your candy bar, securing with glue or tape. Note: do NOT unwrap the candy bar and remember that the top, slightly wider, section should be over the bottom section. The previews of these wrappers show that only one fits on a standard piece of cardstock or glossy photo paper with a little room to spare. I went ahead and filled that space by making a few gift tags and bookmarks.

Making The Most Of Your Kits

This is part two of an article about all the things you can do with Tagger and Full Size Digital Scrapbook kits. (See Part 1: Tagger Kits - Not Just For Tags here or at http://feliceoriginal.blogspot.com/

Previously, I gave examples of artist trading cards and brag book quickpages that could be created using tagger (and full size, of course) kits. Today, getting into the spirit of the holidays, I'm using Felice Originals Sweet Christmas and Christmas Past kits plus my own Berkeley's Christmas kit to show you some other ways to use your stash.

Since we're all busy thinking about gift giving, I thought I'd make some baggie toppers to decorate ziplock baggies filled with cookies. I'm using Ziplock brand sandwich baggies for this and found that they measure a tiny bit over 6.5 inches across the top. I suggest you measure the baggie you plan to use and adjust the individual baggie topper pattern to fit. In case you are using the same baggies I am,

I'm also including a layout with the baggie topper and a bookmark already laid out for printing on cardstock or glossy photo paper. You will want to use the print-to-border option on your printer set-up.

This is what the baggie toppers and bookmarks I made using Felice's Sweet Christmas and Christmas Past look like before folding:

And here is how they look attached to baggies filled with cookies. Nice touch, isn't it? the bookmarks will be tucked inside books I'm giving as gifts. Give a child in your family plenty of books and make time to read with them when they are small. The gift of reading is a wonderful gift that will open all sorts of doors and keeps giving for a lifetime.

Admittedly, after reading several pages, my first thought was, "Ah, here's another Harry Potter want-to-be." After all, Archy Bass is a young, poor, British orphan with few friends. He's not in magic school but a special boy's school, which is still a separate sort of realm. I found the novel slow to start and could only visualize Archy vaguely: a boy with brown hair in a bowl cut. Archy's world seemed rather ho-hum with an atmosphere slightly reminicent of the school Jane Eyre attended.

Move forward, and Vincent, son of a billionaire and, oddly enough, one of Archy's few friends presents Archy with the opportunity for a vacation, a rare thing for a boy of his means. Although the vacation turns out to be -- a surprise to Vincent too -- a working vacation, the exotic locale and opportunity to escape his humdrum existence is very pleasing to Archy. Until, that is, he meets with a strange rug merchant on the beach. From there on, the novel picks up speed and makes the reader wonder, what's next?

For Archy, what's next is beyond his wildest imagination. His life is turned upside down by the mysterious rug he is talked into purchasing from the man he met on the beach in Turkey. This is where R. G. Bullet makes a creative leap, putting a new twist on the old fable about a flying rug. I won't spoil the surprise but will just say, this isn't Ali Baba's rug. Once Archy's life begins to change, the actions of the primary characters bring them more clearly into focus although I found myself visualizing their appearance along the lines of Rowlings' Hermione and a blond in stead of redhaired Ron. I still found it difficult to come up with a visual image of Archy, however. The character I could most easily visualize was Ward who reminded me of Shaggy in the Scooby-Doo cartoons.

I happen to be a highly visual person and enjoy novels I can easily "see" in my mind, like movies unfolding. I found this novel uneven in that regard. I remember little in the way of visual images from the first part of the novel. It is as if it were filmed in a dingy black and white while later sections such as the site of the act of restitution were colorful and detailed. Perhaps this was an intentionaldevice?

All in all, the novel is something I'd pass along to my grandson who is thirteen. Would love to see what he thinks. And I would pick up another novel by this author to see how his writing continues to develop.

Not Just for Tags

Hi, I'm SherryD, a friend of Felice's and one of her CT. If you're reading this, chances are you are a tagger. You love making tags and can't resist collecting more and more of the wonderful tagger kits available. It's addictive! But, if you are only making tags with your stash of tagger kits, you are limiting yourself and not getting the most out of your investment.

I'd like to show you how you can make the most use of your kits. I'll start by making examples with a couple of Felice's recent kits so you'll have examples of the ideas I'm talking about.

First, we've just had Halloween so it's a little late to make tags to go this year. However, nothing wrong with getting a jump start on next year so here are a couple examples made with Boo Juice and Pumpkin Witch. (Be kind and bear in mind that I'm not primarily a tagger. I'm sure you will do better.) BTW I should mention that Boo Juice is full size not tagger size.

Bet you have some cute photos of the children dressed for Halloween? Don't leave them on the computer. You can create cute bragbook pages with just a little effort from most tagger kits. Set up a blank canvas of size 6" wide and 4" high. Sometimes the papers in a tagger kit will almost cover the canvas or were created at a high enough resolution you can get away with stretching them a little. At other times, you will need to layer papers. Try mirroring the same paper and you might get a good look. Or stretch one a little, maybe to cover 4" of the bragbook width, then cut a fancy side border from another background and layer it on. Print out, tie together with pretty ribbons and leave out on the coffee table for guests to look at. Another great use for tagger kits is making Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) - little pieces of art to exchange with other artists and friends. Some Halloween ATCs would be great to print out, write a message on the back and pop into school lunch bags or even your hubby's briefcase. Just a little way to say, "I love you," and make someone smile. Here are a couple examples:

quick update

had a stupid little accident couple weeks ago in the house and managed to sprain left ankle and do something to left arm. Not supposed to use left hand until docs decide what I did and can't mange to type one handed so have been staying off. First thought I had bad sprain, then x-ray showed something odd in my hand. Sent to hand specialist who thinks I have a fracture in distal end of radius or in scaphoid bone of wrist. MRI finally scheduled for 10/24. Who knew we do so much with non -dominant hand?

Must Have For Your Next Tea Party

I'd like to share a discovery I made on ebay recently. I happened across a shop called Rose Breeze Boutique and if you are a tea lover like I am, you will want to check it out. The owner, Katie, makes the most adorable rose tea favors. I love them all but at my age I don't have a lot of baby or wedding showers going on in the family so don't really need a lot of these. However, I'm expecting to make an out of state visit soon and will be having a small tea party with my friend, Liv. I thought the flowerpot rose tea bags would be a charming little touch.

These are even more beautiful in person! The rose contains a tea bag so the whole rose goes into the cup to brew. I hate to use these so will be ordering more just to show off. And there are a number of lovely designs to choose from.

I think these roses on "stems" would be great tucked into a centerpiece the next time I give my granddaughters or nieces a tea party. Then afterwards each could take one home as a favor.

The Language Of Flowers: Debut Novel By Vanessa Diffenbaugh A Must Read

I have been fascinated by the Victorian era for as long as I can remember. As best I can recall, it probably started when I began reading 19th century British novels back in fifth or sixth grade. The culture as described by Dickens and Eliot and so on was rich in detail and full of curious customs that were intriguing. Much, much later, as a graduate student, I made the 19th century British novel one of my speciality areas.

When you mention the Victorian era, most people think of excess. Images of Victorian fashion with an excess of flounces, ruching, ruffles and so on come to mind. We think of the "gingerbread" trim on stately homes. Or perhaps images of Victorian interiors such as a parlour filled with intricately carved furniture and fireplace mantels, Oriental vases filled with peacock feathers, paisley shawls from India draped across pianos and tables, a heavily embellished crazy quilt of rich fabrics across the back of a sofa. Such images are, of course, drawn from the better known lives of the well-to-do portion of the population. Victorians loved, not excess, but detail in craftsmanship. They were intrigued by the designs of the various cultures the expanding British Empire encountered. Those who could afford to indulge in such pleasures did so. This same privileged class also greatly enjoyed entertainment that included, beyond the usual fondness for classic arts, games, mysteries of all sorts, and intrigue. There were various courting games and practices (often referred to as 'conceits') such as the Language of Fans, a type of flirting in which specific movements of a lady's fan advised a would be suitor of her inclinations, the Language of Gloves, gifts of R.E.G.A.R.D. rings and so on.

The Language of Fans and gloves and REGARD rings have vanished but a vestige of something called The Language Of Flowers remains with us today in the common knowledge that a gift of roses is intended to be symbolic of love. A charming little book, The Language Of Flowers, illustrated by the famous Kate Greenway is perhaps the best known of surviving books that purport to assign meanings to various flowers and plants. This symbolic system of communication was very popular in Victorian times and formed a well loved part of courtship. Ladies would delight in receiving and deciphering the messages contained in bouquets and nosegays. I've owned a copy of Greenway's book for many years and I once had a sideline creating silk floral arrangements for weddings using it's symbolism. I included a card with each arrangement to explain the wishes conveyed by the flowers. Naturally, when I read Pump Up Your Book was representing Vanessa Diffenbaugh's debut novel, The Language Of Flowers, I was eager to read it. My thanks to Pump Up Your Book and the publisher, Ballentine Books, for an advance reading copy.

Diffenbaugh does not disappoint. She grabs the reader with the first line: "For eight years, I dreamed of fire." Stop; don't read any further. Fire is a powerful symbol in and of of itself. We know what it is, what it can do. The word alone is enough to start adrenalin flowing, isn't it? With that line, the reader enters the present day world of the principal character, Victoria Jones. It is Victoria's eighteenth birthday and she is about to be emancipated from the foster care system. The birthday greeting she is given by the other girls in the group home provides a vivid glimpse of the world Victoria is about to leave. It also causes the reader to wonder what it is about Victoria that warrents such behavior.

Victoria is not a character the reader instantly loves. She is not charming, beautiful, or especially talented. Victoria does not communicate well or relate well to others. She is angry and unpredictable. It is only through the alternating chapters that offer glimpses of Victoria's past that the reader gains a little understanding of the reasons for her behavior and feels more compassion for her. Near the end of the first chapter, Victoria does something that brings the light of hope into the darkness and draws the reader closer. About to head out into the world on her own, Victoria leaves a gift of a purple dahlia for each girl at the group home. She knows the girls won't understand her secret language but it's important to her to leave them a message of hope for their futures.

Victoria's own future is uncertain. The foster care system isn't set up to adequately prepare foster children for a life on their own. Although Victoria is allotted three months in a transitional home before being thrown entirely on her own, she doesn't receive the guidance or training she needs to make her own way. She ends up homeless, living in a public park until a local florist gives her a chance at employment and discovers her talent with flower arrangement.

Once Victoria used the language of flowers, learned from a foster mother, to express sentiments best left unspoken in the world of foster care. Sentiments like grief, anger and hate. This takes a turn around as she discovers in her florist work a gift for helping others by creating arrangements based on the language of flowers. Here again, hope asserts itself. The interactions with customers who need her special gift, a budding friendship with the florist, Renata, and a few others Renata introduces her to, cause Victoria to begin to have hope for herself.

When a trip to the floral market with Renata introduces Victoria to a young man (Grant) who seems to understand her secret language, Victoria's world expands further. This reader, who did not like Victoria at first, was carried along learning about the young woman as she considered her past, re-evaluated actions that had brought her to this point, and explored the new feelings awakened by the developing relationship with Grant. What does Victoria decide about what family means, second chances and the possibility of redemption? You need to read the novel yourself and find out first hand.

I know of at least one critic who argued that the novel's ending was too sweet, too much light after so much darkness. However, we are too familiar with horror stories about the foster care system and while it definitely needs improvement, as the author can attest from her own experiences as a care giver, don't we need a little light in the darkness? Let us remember that the human spirit is capable of enduring much and still bringing forth it's best qualities. Or, as Diffenbach's site asserts: "Any one can grow into something beautiful."

Alice Visits Japan

My Alice's Altered Art line at Southern Comfort Scraps has a new kit. I'd been collecting Japanese backgrounds for some time so this kit has 42 backgrounds! Backgrounds are sized at 2.5" x 3.5" for artist trading card makers. However, this translates to 750 pixels by 1050 pixels making the kit work for taggers too. I left 9 of the backgrounds in greyscale so you can color as you like. There are 53 elements, a few of them greyscale too.

It's been some time

since I posted. Had a bad spell with fibro acting up and also was making changes in my medications.

VCU lost to Butler in the Final Four but I'm proud of our guys for getting as far as they did.

On the home front, Tidewater has already had some days in the 80's so summer isn't far away.

My son accepted a position in Pennsylvania so by about July will be farther from home.

My step-daughter, Lisa, is being sued by the sister of her deceased fiance and father of her baby girl for custody. Next court date is 5/28.

Our friend, Raymond, a co-worker of my husband, is having two back surgeries this month. One tomorrow and the second next week. He's had prior back surgery so we're worried for him.

My BIL is about ready to get back to work on the house. This coming weekend he's coming over to start ripping up the tile in the front bath in preparation for new vinyl floor and re-painting. Once that is done we move back to work on living room. Need sub-floor put down to compensate for warping of hardwood floor during a past fire. Then it will be carpet and new furniture! I so hope to have it all done before Thanksgiving.

Watching my father's health. He developed atrial fibrillation and has been on Coumadin about 3 months now. They were supposed to do a little procedure to shock his heart back into proper rhythm but last visit there was no sign of A-fib so they are asking him to stay on meds and go back sometime in June. Poor guy, he's fed up with being on Coumadin because it's so restrictive (he can't even go for dental cleaning) and just wants them to do the procedure so he can come off hte drug. Otherwise, he seems amazing well for someone in early 80's.

I'm working on kits for Sourhern Comfort Scraps and Sunflower Scraps Boutique, writing, and getting back into aqua therapy exercises.

Not very exciting but that's my life at present.

I made a tag for Sue and Kit, the designers to celebrate their Southern heritage. and one for me about my Virginia heritage. I don't usually celebrate the Confederacy bit even though Virginia was the capital of the Confederacy. The old South is no more and the Civil War is such a sad time in our nation's history. It shouldn't be forgotten, of course, because there are lessons to be learned but it's past and we need to move forward.

This beautiful kit is available in both full size and tagger size. I always buy felice's full size when possible because I like to make scrapbook pages as well as tags, bragbook pages and ATCs. Happens I had the full size in this one already and Felice sent me the tagger size to play with too so you'll see a little of both below.

The page with cupid was made for a photo my MIL recently turned up while moving. It's a wedding photo of one of my husband's best friends, James and his wife. I guess it's circa 1970's.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out and can't wait to show Felice. She does such beautiful work!

Blueberry Dreams by Echo's Scraps

My mother-in-law just gave us an envelope of old photos she found while moving out of her house. Echo's new kit, Blueberry Dreams, worked well for two that I scanned and cleaned up.

This one is of my husband. It was taken about the time we first met in late 1960's.

Sad News About A Fellow Designer

Sandy Tice January 2008

Those of you who knew Sandi are aware that Sandi had survived breast cancer twice, suffered from severe nerve damage from reconstructive surgery and developed lung cancer in December a couple years ago. She fought hard and continued to live life to the fullest as much as she could.

Right after she was diagnosed with lung cancer and was going through chemo, she pulled herself out of bed to go serve water to the runners in the Breast cancer Marathon in her city. She told me she couldn't not do it because "they raced for me."

Even as the cancer metatisized through her body and brain, Sandi clung to life. She and Gary made a trip to see the oldest daughter summer before last and stopped by here to visit with me and my husband. We went out for a Chinese buffet and she had us all laughing.

She planned her youngest daughter's wedding while going through some kind of lazer knife treatment for lesions on her brain and on the day of the wedding, she dressed up, put a hat on her bald head and went to celebrate. In photos from the wedding, Sandi looked radiant, her inner beauty shining through. This past year as treatment options ran out, she did her best to stay positive, thankful for every minute with family and friends and even continued to work a little when she could.

Yesterday I received an e-mail from a friend of Sandi's (guess Gary was too broken up to think to let me know) and learned that Sandi returned home to God on 11/18. She was buried yesterday. You can read her obituary and send condolences to her family by going to this address:

Spunky Baby Boy by Felice Originals

This is a cute contemporary kit for photos of your favorite baby boy. While it has some traditional baby elements (bottle, bib, blocks, etc.) they are done in great contemporary colors of blue, green, white and light orange. There is also a touch of the technical found in assorted gears. When I first saw the gears, I thought, "Oh yes, boys come into the world with the wheels/gears already spinning. Forget snips and snails and that old rhyme. Boys are packages of boundless energy, full of curiosity and spunk." I know my son and grandsons are like that. You can find the kit here:

Going way back in time, here is my son in 1978. This child never took naps; he was always wanting to do something.

Note: I cut the cloud tag from one of the papers and extracted a single diaper pin to attach it to the ribbon.

And here's my oldest grandson, Tyler. He was a baby with a million expressions, just a few shown here when he was less than a year old.

Speaking of Ty's expressions, I had to scrap this one. To me it says, "Why am I in this cage?"

Don't you Love Cherry Blossoms?

Okay, it's a little late in the year to see them but I came across a kit by AJ's Random Scraps called Cherry Blossom at Sunflower Scraps Boutique and it made me think about the short lived beauty of the cherry blossoms. You can find her kit here:

The top page shows a photo of the cherry trees in Washington DC during our national cherry blossom festival.

I really liked the look of the cherry tree paper and didn't want to detract from it so used the flowers and pearls in the kit to create frames for the photos of Japanese performers.

While this is a small kit (only 8 papers), I think it captures the delicate and fleeting beauty of the blossoms it is named for.

Just Call Me Cleopatra

That was my mother's nickname for me. Espceially when I wanted to lie around and read or write and she wanted me to go play outside or help with housework. Anyway, I couldn't resist making myself this tag when I got a chance to work with Cleopatra kit by Annie's Design.

Note: I recolored the silver Cleopatra necklace so it would go better with the ankh.

Felice makes awesome kits and when I saw this one, knew I had to have it. First I made a sort of memorial page for my mother who died of lung cancer some years back.

I love how it turned out.

Then there were the tea time elements reminding me of all our discussions over a cup of tea. I had made Mom a tea cup quilt a few years before she got sick. My only photo of her with the quilt isn't all that good but I decided to scrap it anyway because the photo means a lot to me.

Remember the poor Duchess whose baby looked like (was?) a pig? well this is NOT the Duchess' baby but a cute little girl I used to babysit named Londyn:

The fairy is my former neighbor, dancer Katie Figg who I turned into a fairy by adding wings. Isn't she beautiful? I thought a tiny fairy might be tempted by a bottle labeled "Drink me" if she knew it made you bigger.

Seven Year Switch: Revision In Life

I'd never heard of Claire Cook before I read a blurb about her novel, Seven Year Switch. The blurb stated "every seven years you become a completely new person," and went on to say Seven Year Switch was a novel about "accepting who you are and growing into who you want to be" (NY:Voice; June 8, 2010; Hardcover blurb). That grabbed my attention. While I don't know that I can agree with the seven year time frame, I do recognize that there are definitely moments when you stop to evaluate who and what you are and give thought to revision.

When I taught composition, it was important to make my students understand the difference between editing and revision. I'd write the word "revision" on the blackboard and ask them to tell me what it meant. Then I'd write "re -- about" and "vision -- sight" and explain that revision is the act of going back through what we've written and trying to see it again as if it was new. In revising, I told them. we would be asking ourselves if we had communicated what we intended and how we might improve upon what we had done.

It seems to me the same thing happens in life. You reach a time and place, perhaps triggered by a specific event, perhaps without any identifiable trigger, and you stop and ask yourself if you've become the person you wanted to be. You think about how you see yourself and wonder how others see you. You ask yourself whether you are living the life you planned, the life you want. You evaluate what you find, decide whether or not you are satisfied with what is. If you aren't happy with what you find, then you begin to ask what you're going to do about that.

Cook's main character, Jill Murray, once had a promising career teaching business executives how to communicate with other cultures, a loving husband, and an adorable three-year-old daughter. Then one day her dream life fell apart when her husband, bored with the safe domestic routine, abandoned her and their daughter to go in search of adventure. With no support of any kind from her husband, Seth, Jill had to forge ahead and create a new life for her and her daughter. The daughter, Anastasia, becomes the hub around which Jill's world revolves. Every decision Jill makes is based on her desire to do the best for her daughter.

Jill is a very believable character one can identify with. She's a strong woman who refuses to let misfortune get her down, even if only because she knows Anastasia has no one but her to depend upon. She takes a job answering telephones for a travel agency called Great Girlfriends Getaways, a little ironic because she hasn't got time for girlfriends. The only "girlfriend" time she allows herself is that spent with the owner of the travel agency, Joni, and her next-door neighbor, Cynthia. Jill fills her time taking care of Anastasia and making ends meet. She is admirably innovative turning her interest in other cultures into a series of Lunch Around The World cooking classes she teaches at the community center, and some business consulting services. This is a woman who learned how to survive but she's just surviving, not living. There is no money to buy herself any of the cute outfits her neighbor wears, and no time to hang out with girlfriends or to date. Still, seven years after her husband's departure, Jill looks around at the modest home she managed to purchase and her darling daughter and makes peace with what is. Her life isn't what she planned but she can feel good that she has found her own way.

Then one day, at the community center, Jill looks up and finds Seth standing there and all the conflicting feelings towards him surface. Seth offers a pathetic excuse for his disappearance and announces he wants to come back into their lives; he wants to see their daughter. Jill is torn between wanting to tell him to disappear again for good and giving her daughter a chance to know her father. Finally, she does what she's been doing these past seven years, she puts Anastasia's needs first. Once Seth is reunited with his daughter, Jill knows he will be a part of their lives from then on in one way or another.

The question for Jill then becomes can she revert to being the woman she was before Seth left? Can she continue being who she became afterwards? or does she need to once again revise her life. Through her business consulting, Jill had just met an intriguing man named Billy Sanders who crafts designer bicycles and wants to develop a Japanese market for them. For the first time in seven years, she is tempted by the promise of more than a fleeting relationship. Billy, like Seth, isn't what you would call "main stream," but unlike Seth, he isn't self-centered. Billy is warm, level-headed, caring. Jill is amazed as he discusses the relationship he has with his ex-wife, her new husband, and her sons. And she is touched that he understands she needs to take things slowly.

Cook's depiction of Jill's struggle to move on and work towards the life she really wants is believable and touching. Revision is never an easy chore but can be a valuable experience. I enjoyed the way Cook worked in a metaphor about surfing and life as Jill and Billy look towards their future. Surfing, she says, like life is "fun, but also a lot harder than it looks. . . . the trick is to use the calm between the waves to position yourself for the next one" (NY:Voice; 2010; 233). And to help readers make the most of that calm, Cook concludes her novel with a page entitled "PASSPORT To Your Next Chapter" where she shares seven tips for your own revision. You might not find any of these new or surprising but it's good to be reminded of each.

Cook crafts a fine novel filled with sympathetic, believable characters, and has a wonderful comedic touch as well. There is an episode near the end of the novel where Jill borrows one of Cynthia's Spanx products that is not to be missed. I laughed until I cried.

Thank you, Claire Cook, for a fun read, for an insight into one (fictional but so real) woman's revision, and for reminding us of the value of friendship.

I'd been trying to decide on a kit to use to scrap a page for my niece Joanna, who has just graduated from high school and gotten her license as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She's a bit shy but really has enjoyed assisting in the nursing homes and is now seeking her first paying job as a CNA. I decided Summer Day Dream was just the thing ans scrapped this page for her. What do you think?

While playing around with the kit, I found this particular paper just said hot sun on water to me so found this cute photo on web of baby boy in swimming pool. the little guy was nude so I painted him a swimsuit so he'd be considered properly presented.

Then I got to play with a new kit, Gracie, by Joyfully Yours, Susannah at Southern Comfort Scraps. It was perfect to scrap a photo of my son's new Siamese kitten,Bilbo.

Hmm, I thought, what might not ordinarily seem beautiful if not for love? One thing that came to mind was messy babies and we all know how messy they can get. It's summer time already! Charlene (Memory Lane Creations) at Scrapping Whispers and Southern Comfort Scraps has a set of On Vacation kits in a number of monochromatic colors. I had to play with the aqua one and want to share my results.

This is my favorite, in part because I have babies on the brain right now as my step-daughter in currently in the hospital in labor with her third child, our first grand-daughter. They have a pool where they live and Lisa (daughter) and I have been talking about getting a tiny bathing suit for Larkin (that will be baby's first name) so she can go in the pool. Was looking at some articles and ads about babies swimming and baby swim classes and found a darling photo I had to use with Charlene's kit. Isn't she adorable?

I'm a PS user and have recently started making tags. I'll share how I created the one above but warn you that this will probably be different in format than the PSP tag tutorials you are used to. For one thing, I take notes as I go, but rnever remember to do screen shots of each step. However, for what's it's worth, I'll tell you how I arrived at the tag above.

The tagger kit I used is Fairy Llyria by Puddicat Creations and can be found here at Sunflower Scraps Boutique:

The kit is named for the cute Poser fairy inside called Fairy Llyria which is by Medieval.

In PS:
1) open a 6" square transparent canvas
2) open paper 18 and layer over center of transparent layer
3)open paper 4 and cut a hilly shape using template of your choice. I used Scrapdesafios_Shapes_15 & sized the template down.
4) duplicate the shape cut in step 3 and darken to your taste. Place this layer slightly behind the original and merge down into one piece.
5)take your green hilly shape and place at the bottom of paper 18 for ground.
6) add the arbor as shown in tag
7) add light blue flowers to approximately the middle back of the ground section
8) place the unicorn on the hilly part to the lower right as shown.
9) place fairy on left about one inch from bottom
10) place more light blue flowers to left of fairy
11) add the bush with white flowers in lower left corner
12) take the grass element, stretch and squish down a bit until you like the shape and place near the middle at the bottom of the paper
13)add drop shadows to layers as desired
14) merge visible forming a collage square in the center of the canvas
15) use the rounded square cookie cutter shape on the collage square to remove corners
16) open new 6" transparent canvas, add grid, and move the collage square to the center
17) open doodle 2, flip horizontal and position to left so that it will be placed as you see in the finished tag
18) move that layer so that part of the doodle is behind the collage square
19)duplicate doodle 2 layer, reverse and flip vertical positioning on right side of collage square as above
20) move layer 19 behind the collage square
21) merge visible
22) add name to tag [I used CAC Champagne font]
23) under tag in fine print credit the kit used and credit for Poser
24) merge visible and crop to finished size

Have been down with pinched nerve in neck causing migraines headaches with all the accompanying goodies so not doing much. Can't stay at computer long. However, that's a good time to make ATCs or tags which don't take so long.

Discovered a new designer at Sunflower Scraps Boutique. Actually two, since GT designs is a team effort. I believe the ladies are French. What I know for certain is that they produce some lovely kits.

Urgent News! Fellow Designer In Need of Help

I'm sure most scrappers know Aneta aka SweetMade and most of you know I've been on her CT for a few years now. About a month or so ago Aneta told us that she and hubby were selling everything and preparing to move their family from Washington state. I just learned that the move to Georgia where they hoped to provide a better life for their three children has gone horribly wrong. Aneta has written about a lot of this on her Facebook page and has given me permission to tell you her story as the family is in dire straits so pride must be put aside.

Without going into specifics I'll say that their plan to move in with family has not worked out. They know no one else in the area at all and find themselves without home or resources. Although Aneta did not say and I did not ask, I do not believe her husband had yet found work in the area either. Many of us with homes and jobs are struggling in this economy; can you imagine what it must be like to be without either? And with 3 children to depend upon you!

Feathers In The Wind

Have to show you an adorable new kit I've been working with. Feathers In The Wind is by Joyfully Yours, Susannah at Sunflower Scrap Boutique. It's the first time I've seen Susannah's work and the colors in this kit are just so appealing! The blue-greens and browns are soothing and along with the birds make me think of early spring and all the young new things like flowers, baby birds, and babies.
